Responsibilities
- Participate in Support Worker training / orientation with Krisztina Marshall, founder of Heemang Foundation and Master Practitioner in Eating Disorders and Obesity.
- Providing emotional supports for an individual as they embrace their evenings and the challenges that may bring (for instance, late night conversations addressing anxious thoughts, supporting them to disengage with disordered behaviours, etc.)
- Encouraging and supporting the development of personal assertiveness and coping skills.
- Teaching life skills, such as sleep hygiene, manage urges to engage in disordered ways, and deal with unwanted thoughts.
- Working with other healthcare professionals to ensure that all care needs meet the highest possible standards.
- A key responsibility is promoting and planning meaningful days. This can be supporting the individual in enjoying their hobbies and interests, helping them to get involved in community groups, or encouraging them to learn new skills.
- An important aspect of the position is getting to know the individual/ learning how the person communicates, thinks, and acts, and how you can best communicate/ lead them to take actions that serve them better.
- One of the most satisfying parts of your position is that you will enable people to overcome their fears and challenges whilst helping them build confidence, self-compassion, and self-esteem.

- The ability to communicate clearly and sensitively when talking to people and their families.

- The ability to communicate with other healthcare professionals, support workers and volunteers.
- A non-judgemental attitude regardless of a person’s needs.
- The ability to remain calm under pressure and when dealing with challenging situations.
- Previous experience as Support Worker would be a bonus
- Commitment to work in compliance with policies and procedures
Education and experience
- Experience in the mental health field / community or social work is an asset but not essential as training will be provided where you will learn about Heemang Foundation’s values and our person-centred approach.
- After completing your training and orientation, you will be fully competent and confident to provide quality care to the individual you support. Yours learning will continue with further learning sessions relating to the individual you are supporting.
